Sound field rendering

Correct reproduction of acoustic scenes is one of the top priorities in spound field rendering. Due to physical and technical limitations of the classical methods of two- and five-channel-stereophony it has not been possible to achieve this goal. With the introduction of wavefield synthesis a significant improvement  of acoustic reproduction could be achieved.

Wavefield-synthesis is based on the Huygens' principle (1678). It states that every point in a wavefront can be seen as the origin of elementary waves that propagate with the same velocity and wavelength as the original waves. The envelope of all elementary waves constitutes the new wavefront. By placing a sufficient number of loudspeakers around the audience and by generation of suitable signals this principle can be used for the reproduction of acoustic scenes.
