Air traffic develops and increases rapidly. To manage the increasing traffic volume of airports, concepts for automatic flight guidance including the surveillance of the ground traffic on the apron are necessary.
Within the BMWi funded research project iPort and in cooperation with the Gesellschaft für Informatik, Automatisierung und Datenverarbeitung mbH (iAd) the LMS develops methods and algorithms for a complete and continuous apron surveillance. By using video based sensors with intelligent software existing surveillance gaps can be closed. The long-term aim is to accomplish a view-independent flight guidance by a virtual tower operation center.
The research mainly focuses on methods for efficient video compression with regions of interest, recognizing and tracking of regions of interest.
